iPhone 12 vs iPhone 12 Pro – Which is the Best Option?

The iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro both mark Apple’s introduction of 5G technology to the iPhone lineup. It’s the most radical iPhone design change since the launch of the iPhone 6 back in 2014. Both the iPhone 12 and its bigger sibling have plenty of features and tech to offer, but which one is the right for you? Let’s take a look at a few key features and decide.

Design-wise, the main differentiating factor is the sizings. The iPhone 12 Pro is a bit bigger, with a 6.1-inch OLED display vs the iPhone 12’s 5.4-inch OLED display. While it's a personal decision, the 6.1-inch display is better suited to media consumption as it has a larger screen estate, allowing you to enjoy movies and other content more. It’s also worth mentioning that both devices feature the same display resolution, so it’s really only the size of the screen that’s the difference here.

Under the hood, the difference between the two phones is even more marked. The iPhone 12 has Apple’s new A14 Bionic processor. It’s a 6-core chip that’s 2x faster than the A12 Bionic processor and can do 5 trillion operations per second! However, the iPhone 12 Pro has an upgrade, the A14 Bionic chip inside the Pro model is a whopping 10 times faster than the A12 Bionic chip. Clearly, Apple’s big claims of the Pro model are true and this has even allowed the device to offer a 120hz display refresh rate which makes content smooth and realistic.

In terms of cameras, the most significant update to the iPhone 12 Pro is its LiDAR Scanner. The LiDAR scanner helps the camera in capturing images, by providing an AV depth of field and a bokeh effect for portrait shots. Also, the triple-camera system on the Pro makes it much more versatile, allowing you to take wide-angle shots with the ultra-wide lens, as well as shoot with optical zoom using the telephoto lens. All in all, the Pro model offers much better camera system compared to the iPhone 12.

When it all comes down to it, it’s really up to your personal preference. But considering the price tag and tech, the iPhone 12 Pro is probably a safer bet for most users. However, if you need a compact phone and don’t care for advanced features, the iPhone 12 might be a better option.
